America’s Cup, una rappresentativa cinese prova l’AC45

America’s Cup – Auckland – Il tempo speso in mare è stato breve, sufficiente però per apprezzare le doti prestazionali dell’AC45. Thierry Barot e Yann Dabbadie, general manager e design di una potenziale sfida griffata dal dragone cinese, si sono detti soddisfatti dell’esperienza vissuta a bordo del catamarano dotato di ala rigida che sarà protagonista della prima edizione dell’America’s Cup World Series.

“La barca è molto ben bilanciata. Il design non è estremo, proprio quello che ci vuole per un team privo di esperienza specifica – ha commentato Dabbadie al rientro in banchina – E’ un catamarano molto semplice e facile da manovrare: un buon passo iniziale”.

Per Barot, già impegnato con  nel 2007, l’AC45 è “…magico. Davvero impressionante in acqua. E’ potente e sicuro. Credo davvero sarà una barca in grado di affascinare il pubblico e i media”.

Veleggiata a parte, Barot e Dabbadie si fermeranno ancora qualche giorno in Nuova Zelanda e ne approfitteranno per prendere parte a una serie di meetimg con il Regatta Director, Iain Murray.

Per quanto riguarda le chance di partecipazione di un nuovo team cinese, Barot si è detto ottimista: “Ci siamo vicini. Speriamo di iniziare presto gli allenamenti”.

AMERICA’S CUP, PROSPECTIVE CHALLENGE
[Source America’s Cup] While the time on board was brief, it was long enough to know that the AC45 is the right platform for teams to step up to multihull racing in the America’s Cup, say the prospective team’s General Manager Thierry Barot and designer Yann Dabbadie.

“The boat is very well balanced, a very safe design that is great for teams without much experience,” said Dabbadie after a day on the water observing the AC45 in Auckland. “It’s very basic and very easy to handle – a very good first step.”

For Cup veteran Barot, who was with Team China in the 32nd America’s Cup, the new AC45 gets a thumbs up. “It’s magic. It’s impressive on the water. There is so much power yet it is so safe. I really think it will be exciting for public and media.”

The prospective Chinese, represented by Barot and Dabbadie in Auckland this week, will leave New Zealand after three days of meetings with America’s Cup officials including Regatta Director Iain Murray.

“We are getting closer,” Barot said of China’s prospects for challenging. “We hope to start training soon with the Chinese team.”

The Chinese words emblazoned on the shirts of Barot and Dabbadie were “Xin Yi Dai.” Those words mean New Generation. Perhaps a New Generation is coming soon to the 34th America’s Cup. Stay tuned.
