America’s Cup, il GGYC attacca SNG sui regolamenti della 33ma edizione

[singlepic id=4861 w=204 h=300 float=left]America’s Cup – Valencia – In seguito alla pubblicazione delle nuove revisioni di Bando di Regata e Notice of Race della 33ma America’s Cup, Tom Ehman torna a far sentire la sua voce, attaccando la Société Nautique de Genève, accusata di interpretare le regole o crearne di nuove a suo mero vantaggio.

“…entrambi i documenti – si legge nella dichiarazione di questa sera – sono pieni di errori, ed evidenziano la volontà della Société Nautique de Genéve di interpretare le regole – o crearne di nuove – a totale favore di Alinghi ai danni del challenger. Il Bando di Regata e le Istruzioni di Regata sono fortemente squilibrati a favore del defender e del suo yacht, nonostante gli input pronunciati dal Golden Gate Yacht Club e dall’ISAF… durante la riunione della scorsa settimana a Singapore e in un incontro di fine dicembre a Sydney.

E’ per questo che il Golden Gate Yacht Club ha presentato un ricorso alla Giuria internazionale, chiedendo che la Giuria venga convocata al più presto per cancellare, o rivedere, tali disposizioni prima del match.

Più nello specifico la Société Nautique de Genève ha:
– reinserito la Regola 53 (“Skin Friction”) dopo che la stessa era stata cancellata da una sentenza della Corte Suprema dello Stato di New York;
– fissato l’orario di partenza delle regate nonostante il Deed of Gift richieda che questo debba essere stabilito sulla base del mutuo consenso;
– fissato i limiti di vento e onde per favorire il suo yacht;
– modificato l’ultima stesura del Bando di Regata per mettere al bando determinati equipaggiamenti utilizzati per rilevare l’intensità del vento da parte di BMW Oracle Racing, strumenti che erano autorizzati dalla precedente Notice of Race;
– ridefinito la gerarchia delle regole, in modo che il Bando e le Istruzioni di Regata della Société Nautique de Genève abbiano, in caso di contestazione, la precedenza sulle normali Regole di Regata…

Siamo fiduciosi che la Giuria Internazionale ristabilirà le normali procedure e i giusti regolamenti”.

AMERICA’S CUP, TOM EHMAN STATEMENT
[Golden Gate Yacht Club Press Release] The America’s Cup defender, Société Nautique de Genève, issued today a revised Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for the 33rd America’s Cup Match set to begin on February 8th in the waters off Valencia, Spain.

Both documents are riddled with errors, and continue Société Nautique de Genève’s practice of interpreting rules – or creating new ones – solely to favor Alinghi and harm the chances of the Challenger.

The Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions are heavily biased in favor of the Defender and its yacht despite input from Golden Gate Yacht Club and ISAF, the sport’s world governing body, during last week’s meeting in Singapore and a meeting in late December in Sydney.

Therefore, today Golden Gate Yacht Club has made an application for redress to the International Jury, asking that the Jury be convened as soon as possible to negate or revise the biased provisions before the Match.

Specifically, Société Nautique de Genève has:
– Effectively re-inserted Racing Rule 53 (“Skin Friction”) after obtaining a New York Supreme Court ruling to delete it;
– Set the starting time for the races despite the Deed of Gift’s requirement that this be agreed by mutual consent;
– Set wind and wave limits to favor its own yacht;
– Changed the latest draft of the Notice of Race to ban certain wind detection equipment now being used by BMW Oracle Racing that, previously, was permitted under all earlier drafts of the Notice of Race;
– Re-arranged the hierarchy of the applicable rules so that Société Nautique de Genève’s Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions would, in the case of conflict, overrule the Racing Rules; this is highly irregular and contrary to normal practice in yacht racing.

It is clearer than ever that Société Nautique de Genève is hell-bent on making the America’s Cup the Alinghi Cup.

We now look to the International Jury to reinstate the correct and proper rules and procedures.
