America’s Cup, Brad Butterworth sul meeting di Singapore

[singlepic id=4414 w=300 h=204 float=left]America’s Cup – Valencia – Tornato a Valencia, Brad Butterworth, skipper di Alinghi e rappresentante del team al recente meeting di Singapore con BMW Oracle Racing, ha così commentato l’ accaduto: “Siamo stati in riunione con i rappresentanti di BMW Oracle Racing dalle ore 9 locali sino alle 20 del 12 gennaio, quando ci siamo accordati per rivederci la mattina seguente visto che, risolti molti dei punti in sospeso, c’erano ancora delle questioni da risolvere. D’accordo con il rappresentante dell’ISAF, David Kellet, e con il presidente della Giuria Internazionale della 33ma America’s Cup, David Tillet, abbiamo optato per un blackout mediatico e di non fare nulla che avrebbe potuto mettere a rischio la prosecuzione dei colloqui, in modo da sfruttare la giornata seguente per trovare una soluzione sulle questioni rimaste ancora sul tavolo”.

“Abbiamo poi concluso la serata cenando assieme e continuando a parlare degli argomenti del giorno, prima di lasciarci con un gentleman agreement. Quando siamo tornati a riunirci alle 9.30 della mattina seguente (mercoledì 13) sotto la supervisione di Tillet, Tom Ehman ci ha informato, per conto di BMW Oracle Racing, che nel corso della notte era stata presentata una nuova azione legale davanti al tribunale di New York e che stavano per diffondere un comunicato stampa in merito”.

“A questo punto le relazioni tra i due team si sono inasprite, ma nonostante il sorprendente sviluppo, il rappresentante dell’ISAF ci ha incoraggiato a sottoporre l’accordo ai management dei team, cosa che ho accetto di fare. Il meeting si è così concluso e i membri dell’ISAF sono andati verso l’aeroporto. Nel corso del pomeriggio, in un primo tempo sono stato informato che BMW Oracle Racing era disposto a firmare l’accordo, ma proprio quando mi sono messo in contatto con Valencia per parlare dell’accordo con i miei, ho appreso che BMW Oracle Racing aveva deciso di ritirarsi definitivamente dalla trattativa”.

[Source Alinghi] On his return to Valencia, Brad Butterworth, Alinghi team skipper and representative at the recent Singapore meetings with BMW Oracle Racing, comments on what happened: “We had a meeting with BMW Oracle Racing representatives from 9.00 SGT on Tuesday 12 January until 20.00 that night and agreed to reconvene the next morning to continue as there were a lot of issues that we had agreed on but a few that were holding us apart. We agreed before the ISAF representative, David Kellett, and the ISAF AC Jury chairman, David Tillett, to have a media blackout and to do nothing that would jeopardise the discussions until we had had sufficient time the following day to talk these remaining issues through”.

“As it happened, we all ended up having dinner together and continued the discussions, which concluded that night with a gentleman’s agreement. When we reconvened at 9.30 the next morning (Wednesday 13) and the meeting was brought to order by Tillett, Tom Ehman – on behalf of BMW Oracle Racing – instructed us that court proceedings had been filed in New York overnight and that they were sending a media release”.

“At this stage the relationship between the two teams soured dramatically, but despite this surprising development, the ISAF representatives encouraged us to take the agreement back to the team principals which I agreed to do. The meeting ended and the ISAF guys left for the airport. During the course of the afternoon, I was initially instructed that BMW Oracle Racing were keen to sign the deal, but by the time I got hold of the guys in Valencia to discuss it, BMW Oracle Racinghad withdrawn from the agreement”.
